  • How To Maintain Battery Life

Do you ever get halfway through the day and find that your e-cig has ran out of battery? It can be extremely annoying, especially if you forget your charger. But how can you prevent it happening and prolong your battery life? We explore the best ways to maintain your battery life.

Most e-cigs have lithium-ion batteries. To guarantee your battery the best start, give it a good first charge. This conditions the battery so that it will last longer and should keep the charge for longer too. It’s also important not to allow the battery to fully drain. This can have lasting damage on the battery and greatly reduce the overall battery life. It’s a good idea to charge the battery as soon as the indicator tells you to, or even once you notice the volume of vapour decrease. However, you do not need to charge the battery in full every time. Battery University advise ‘Lithium-ion does not need to be fully charged; a partial charge is better’. Sticking to this advice should ensure a good battery life for your device.

You should use your battery frequently as this type of battery is designed to be used often. This is because it is more difficult for power to move through the cells freely if the battery is left unused for a long time. It’s also important to make sure that you switch the power to ‘off’ when you aren’t using it. If you carry your e-cig in your bag or one of your pockets, you can damage them by sitting on them if they are left on. If you have nowhere else to store it, why not try using a carry case? This will protect your device, keep everything together and will also keep it clean.

The most important thing is to keep your battery at room temperature. Tech Republic tells us ‘The worst thing that can happen to a lithium-ion battery is to have a full charge and be subjected to elevated temperatures. So don’t leave or charge your mobile device’s battery in your car if it’s hot out. Heat is by far the largest factor when it comes to reducing lithium-ion battery life’. In order to keep your battery lasting longer, store it in a cool, dark and dry place and try and keep it charged at 40% if you won’t be using it for a while. This will allow for some discharge but won’t ruin the battery.

To ensure the best life for your e-cig and battery, you should clean it regularly. The battery connection can become corrupted by dust, leaking e-liquid and general dirt. You should never submerge your battery in water. Using a cotton swab or alcohol wipe can be a great way of getting rid of any unwanted grime and allowing your e-cig to last longer. You will probably also find by doing this, you’re able to inhale more deeply and produce a good cloud of vapour. Cleaning your e-cig regularly is vital for the maintenance of the device and also produces a better vaping experience for you.
